SYDNEY - A CITY YOU SHOULD VISIT IN THE FUTURE
Hi! Here I am going to post all the diferent things or places I am going to visit in the city of Sydney. I have never been to Australia but I have a friend that go once and I going to ask him if he can told me some information about it.
This first episode of the podcast is about my last travel to other country, exactly to Rome.
QUEEN VICTORIA BUILDING:
This spectacular building it is called as a huge shopping centre, and obviously it is full of stores, exactly 200 stores where you can buy all kinds of things (appliances, food, clothes…)
After entering in the official Queen Victoria Building website and seeing all the stores that have this spectacular shopping centre, the one that caught my attention was KENZO PARIS, a store where you can buy clothes, but only clothes of this special brand. This special brand, like all the others, has a logo to know which brand we are talking about. Its main element is a tiger, which changes color depending on what color the sweatshirt or t-shirt is, since there needs to be contrast between the colors.
As the name itself says, this brand was produced or created in France, exactly in Paris, thanks to the work of the Japanese producer who has the same name as the brand, Kenzō Takada.
Another incredible building that you can visit in Sydney is the Sydney Opera House, that is is one of the best known world’s icons. This building is shaped like shells, was built on a finger of land surrounded by water.
Here I am going to answer questions about the visit to the
Sydney Opera House:
- About transport: Sydney has an extensive public transport system of buses, trains, metro rail, light rail and ferries. To use the network, you’ll need to either purchase an Opal card or use a contactless credit card, debit card or mobile device. If you want to catch one of those transports to visit Sydney Opera House, for example, The nearest train station to Sydney Opera House is Circular Quay Station. Adults —> $43 Children —> $23
- About the tour: Walk through and see the House up close and personal. Each perspective brings a unique and breathtaking experience. This guided tour runs for 60 minutes (1 hour), it is suitable for all ages and the tour is in English but you can also take this tour in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin languages. Is important to note that as we are a busy performing arts centre, venues and theatres are subject to availability at the time of your tour and the tour route is subject to change. This tour includes up to 300 stairs with no lift access and will be unsuitable for those who require step-free access.
- About the history: The Sydney Opera House exists because a few brave people dared to think differently. From conception to completion, the building tested the limits of engineering, construction and design. It was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, and this masterpiece represents a breakthrough in modern architecture. Jørn Utzon was born in Copenhage, Denmark, known mainly for having carried out the Sydney Opera House project, and for being the winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2003, which is an architecture award is given annually to a living architect from any country, who has shown through his projects and built works the different facets of his talent as an architect, contributing with them to the enrichment of humanity.
- About the World Heritage: On 28 June 2007 the Sydney Opera House was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the World Heritage Convention, placing it alongside the Taj Mahal, the ancient Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China as one of the most outstanding places on Earth.
- About the insiders: Wilson Parking's Sydney Opera House Car Park is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, and has undercover access to the Sydney Opera House Lower Concourse. The car park has 1,200 parking bays and conveniently located pay machines on every level. Entry height is 2.2 metres. As a proud sponsor of the Sydney Opera House, Wilson Parking offers discounted parking at Sydney Opera House Car Park when you prepay online or on the Wilson Parking App.
The Commonwealth was founded in 1926, and as we probably know, Australia is one of the fifty-four member states that belong to the Commonwealth of Nations. Although the Commonwealth of Nations is made up of fifty-four states, there is one that seems better to me than others, and this one is Canada:
- Canada is the second largest country in the world by area, located in North America, next to the United States.
- Canada is a diverse, tolerant, peaceful and welcoming nation, known for its nature and stunning natural beauty.
- Canada is also known as a modern and progressive nation with open-minded citizens, and it is multicultural society proud of its ethnic diversity.
- In addition, it offers an excellent quality of life, a first-class educational system, competitive salaries, an open immigration policy and a constant search for foreign talent.
- Canadá starts being a member of Commonwealth of Nations in 1931.
- Through a treaty accepted by Queen Victoria, Canada became an independent self-governing federation in 1867.
The Commonwealth Games is a multinational and multi-sport event. It is held every four years in different cities that belong to the Commonwealth of Nations and it involves their elite athletes. Attendance at the Commonwealth Games is usually around 5000 athletes more or less. But here I am going to write about the different sports that have one of the member state that belong to the Commonwealth of Nations, exactly Cameroon:
- There are traditional sports such as wrestling, although other sports are currently gaining ground in Cameroon such as football

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of the most famous art museums in Australia. The building was built in 1885 and houses spacious galleries and collections ranging from works by the European masters and Asian artists, to contemporary art form around the different continents.
The gallery also contains one of the largest collections of aboriginal art in Australia, and from this collection of incredible art the one that surprised me the most was the chart of a “ aboriginal man”:
Although in the entire collection there are thousands of paintings of different arts, I have decided that this has been the one that has surprised me the most because it represents a little of the way man had to dress a lot of years ago or ever what their faces were like.
In addition to representing what was said above, this painting has caught my attention because of the in which it is painted, because we can see that a very old material has been used, which I quite like since it needs to represent something from a lot of years ago.
Not only this painting surprise me, but I would also like to highlight another painting from the Art Gallery of New South Wales that is the same as the previous one, only instead of being a man chart it’s a woman chart that has been done with the same old material.
2ND PODCAST - AN AUSTRALIAN MUSICIAN
Keith Urban was a country-musician that has born in Whangarei, New Zealand, in October 26 1967, but it also nazionalized as a australian musician because even having born in New Zealand he grew up in a Brisbane suburb.
It is known for having married with the famous australian actress Nicole Kidman, in June 25 2006, the woman he meet in January 2005 at a dinner sponsored by the Australian government in Los Angeles, and with Nicole he has two daughters, born in 2008 and 2010.
His parents were fans of American culture, his interests in country music began to emerge when he began winning local competitions in his hometown and in New Zealand. And that's why he moved to Nashville, where he started knocking on various doors until he found success.
The type of music that Keith interpretate is contemporary country music, with touches of pop and rock music, but without leaving behind the traditional instruments of this music, such as the banjo. He began to learn playing the guitar at the age of 6, been educated in the Caboolture High School, and began winning talent contests at the age of eight. By twelve he was booking his band in local clubs, and at fifteen he quit school to hit the music road. In 1990, Urban signed with EMI in Australia and recorded his first solo album, which charted four No. 1 country hits in Australia.
People say that Keith Urban is one of the famous musicians in the world because of his 4 Grammy wins, 18 more nominations to this award, 5 ARIA awards and the most important in her career, the 24 country Number One hits. So he solidified his position as a music industry powerhouse. With this, we can see that in 2006 he won a Grammy award with his “You’ll Think of Me”, although unfortunately in October 2006, he entered a detoxification clinic due to his previously declared addiction to cocaine.
To finish, Keith must have been one of the best singer-songwriters in all of Australian musical history.

SPEAKING OF THIS TWO LISTENING TASKS
In the first video, we can listen a girl talking to a boy about Sydney and Australia. To start, the girl says that what the likes the most about Sydney are the languages, since people who live in Sydney, in addition to speaking the English many of them also speak a second language, the most common being Arabic and Lybian language, but less common the Mandarin Chinese and Italian. Apart from the languages spoken in Sydney, she also like the wilderness of this country. To finish this task, the girl told him that when he have been to Australia his parents take her to a desert, but she says that Australia have the best ones and that that adventure was fascinating.
In the second video, we can listen a man talking about everything Australia can offer you if you are going to visit it. First thing that the man told us in the video is that Australia is most known for its desert landscapes and unique animals, such as the kangaroos. Australia is the smallest of the seven continents in the world, and with this the man says that Australia’s nickname was “the land down under”. About the space, we can learn that in Australia the stars and constellations appear upside down and you can almost see 3,000 stars at night. The man also talk about the tallest mountain of this country, which is called Uluru,
that is 1,100 feet tall. To finish, after watching this video we can also learn a little bit about the history of Australia, for example how long ago the aborigines arrive to this country, 50,000 years ago. And obviously this first persons that arrive to Australia for the first time use the English as a first language.
2ND EVALUATION
“LOOK, THERE’S A KOALA OVER THERE!”
After looking inside all the Taronga Zoo websites here are the answers of those question that appear in the document:
If a group of eight teenagers that have 14 years old want to buy tickets to Taronga Zoo online are going to save almost 25 australian dollars, because after searching in the tickets website we can see that the people with a age between 4-15 years pay 27,90 australian dollars if they buy online but if they buy in person are 3 australian dollars more, so a difference of almost 25 australian dollars.
If you enter in the Taronga Zoo accommodation website you can see that if you want you can spend one night or more. In addition, this zoo gives you two types of accommodation that are very good if you want to spend the night comfortably.
The first is “Roar and Snore”, an accomodation that includes fully equipped tents within the zoo, and where the guests can enjoy exclusive guided tours and great views of Sydney Harbour.
And the second one is “Wildlife Retreat”, an accomodation where like his name says includes incredible news of all the incredible wildlife of Sydney.
The Wild Australia Experience includes many things, the obvious one is that you can see almost all the types of animals, the famous ones here in Australia the koalas and the kangaroos. This tour is the perfect opportunity to get an insider’s view on Taronga’s Australian Wildlife, go behind the scenes in Taronga’s Australian Nocturnal House and have the chance to meet all this animals that I name before, for example taking photos to remind them when you come back to home.
Me I never been to a zoo but i think that this is an amazing a beautiful zoo and I think that it’s worth it to visit. And after seeing all the photographs of what this zoo offers to you I would recommend to many friends or to my family.
“HYDE PARK SYDNEY THINKING ROUTINE”:
First of all, in this image we can see a part of this hyde park in Sydney, that have a great nature too.
This two old mans are playing a chess match, but it isn’t the original one, this one, since it is located in a park, is made on the ground and obviously the pieces are much larger.
If i had to say how often I think these people play at the park, I would say that this two old mans go to this park everyday to play at least 1 game.
Instead of playing chess at the park, I think that other sports or that you can practice in this hyde park could be basketball or skating, because normally at the parks there are courts above all of basketball.
Where I live there are many parks where you can go with your friends or family to spend time, but none is similar to the Hyde Park of Sydney.
Every weekend I meet my friends take a walk around any place we want at the moment, whether it’s school or parks like the Guggenheim one.
Going to the park is not the thing that I like most if I meet with my friends or family, but if they say me to go I spend a spectacular time with them playing at this parks. When I go to school with my dad for example I usually go to practice sport like football of basketball, but if I go to the park I never play a sport.
DARLING HARBOUR:
First of all, in this port you can do almost everything you want or like to do, because it offers you a tour of the entire port so you can see all the incredible facilities it has, and apart from this, the port also offers a big amount of activities. After looking at all the activities, I thought that the one I would like to do the most if I visited this place would be a visit to the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium.
I have chosen this place as the place that I would most like visit since I think that going to an aquarium is an excellent experience and you can have a great time if you go with friends or family. I also think that seeing marine animals can be relaxing and can help you learning more about them.
As I have said before, this place is very special, so there is no place where you can be bored, since you have almost 10 areas in which to interact and visualize everything that this aquarium offers you.
THE ROCKS:
The Rocks Markets operate exclusively on weekends, specifically every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
To reach The Rocks via public transport, the most convenient option is to take a train to Circular Quay Station. From there, it's a short walk towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge to arrive at The Rocks. If you prefer traveling by bus, disembark at stops along Alfred Street near Circular Quay, then proceed north to The Rocks.
ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS:
After having a incredible experience in the Royals Botanic Gardens I can answer to the three questions below:
Dedicating a bench at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney offers a meaningful way to commemorate special moments or loved ones. Like the question said, the dedication period is ten years, with donation fees varying based on the bench's location: if you want to see iconic harbour views you have to pay $19,500, if you want to be at the premium gardens you should pay $16,500 and finally to the outer gardens you should pay $12,500.
As a member of the Foundation & Friends of the Botanic Gardens, you will receive "The Gardens" magazine quarterly, totaling four issues per year. This magazine provides seasonal news and updates about the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah, and the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.
Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney is home to a wide variety of plants, both native to Australia and exotic from other parts of the world. Instead, after looking for the different plants or flowers that this gardens has, my favorite one was one that is called Gymea Lily, a plant native to the east coast of Australia, particularly New South Wales, making it a symbol of the Australian landscape. I have chosen this plant because it is the one that has caught my attention the most after seeing them all, and also because when you look for this plant you can see that is very different than the others, since they stand out for their sword-shaped leaves and an impressive floral spike that can reach up to 6 meters in height.
LISTENING SYDNEY:
After listening to what is talking about Rebecca i did the activities and here are the results when i completed:
QUESTION TAGS:
After looking for the video that explains with a example how to use the question tags i did the activities that appear below this video, and here are the results:
SYDNEY TOWER:
After looking for all the sections in the Sydney Tower Website, the section that I find the most interesting is one that is called “International Wheelchair Day”. I choose this section because i think that he gives you an especial experience where you can see from the highest part of the tower all the Sydney city. There are other that are also interesting but this is the one the interest me the most, in addition, here they give you information about what are you seeing with the prismatics.
